The sleepy community of Umuida, Enugu Ezike, in Igbo-Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu state has been thrown into confusion following the alleged murder of a 65-year-old man, Mr. Felix Atta by his son, Ejoifor Atta.
Although the cause of the quarrel between the aged man and his son was still unclear as at the time of filling this report, DailyPost learnt that Ejiofor rushed to his father at his Umuonu residence and allegedly inflicted several matchet injuries on him.
It was gathered that when his dad became unconscious as a result of the matchet wounds and loss of blood, the suspect fled the compound.
The village source said the victim was, however, rushed to the Ogrute General Hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The Enugu state police spokesman , Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the incident, said the dead body of the deceased is now deposited at the Ogrute General Hospital Mortuary, adding that the police have also commenced serious investigation into the matter.
In a related development, a middle aged man of about 56 years has allegedly committed suicide at Umuenachi Amalla Egazi in Udenu local Government Area of the state.
The deceased was reported to have hung himself on the wall hanger inside his room.
The police, while confirming the death, said the victim who was suffering from partial stroke was discovered in the room at about 7.30am, already dead on the rope.
Amaraizu said investigations into the incident have commenced, while the body of the deceased jas been deposited at Prince Eze Hospital Mortuary, Obollo Afor for post mortem examination.
