Son docked in Lagos over alleged threat to life, theft of father’s N114,000

A 45-year-old, Adebayo Gbadebo, who allegedly stole his father’s N114, 000 and also threatened to kill his octogenarian father, was on Friday in Lagos brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court. The accused, who is facing two-count charge of stealing and threat to life, lives at Olaorokun Street, Orile-Agege, a Lagos suburb.

He was, however, granted bail in the sum of N50, 000 and one surety after he pleaded not guilty.

According to the prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe, the accused committed the offences on May 23 at his residence.

He told the court that the accused collected N114, 000 from four of his father’s tenants and converted the money to personal use.

Ajebe alleged that the son also threatened to kill his 80-year-old visually-impaired father.

“The son has been trying to take over the complainant’s property without remitting rent collected to him.’’

The offences contravened Sections 56 and 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Sections 56 and 285 provide a three-year jail term for offenders.

While adjourning the case, the Magistrate, Mr Alexander Komolafe, said the surety must show evidence of three years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The court fixed Aug. 8 for trial. (NAN)
