The Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has reacted to President Muhammadu Buhari’s claim that his ministers are ” round pegs in round hole” arguing that some of them are round pegs in square holes.

The group while expressing its opinion through its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Yinka Odumakin on Friday said the portfolios given to some of the ministers was a direct contrast of their backgrounds.

According to the Yoruba socio-political group, it could identify some of the ministers who would have to learn on the job, though some appear suitable for the ministries they have been posted to head.

Odumakin affirmed, “Our expectation was that the President would put round pegs in round holes. A critical look at the assignment of portfolios shows that was partially achieved. There are ministers who have been given ministries that reflect their backgrounds, but there are those that are clearly round pegs in square holes.

“Hadi Sirika, as a trained pilot would be good in the aviation sector. Adamu Suleiman in Water Resources comes with requisite experience. Prof. Isaac Adewole in health also fits the bill. But many had expected that Kayode Fayemi would be in Foreign Affairs and not Solid Minerals.”

The group observed that Okechukwu Enemelah should have been posted to the ministry of finance because of the brilliance he showed during screening at the senate.

He said, “It is also confounding that Udo Udoma, who is a lawyer, was given Budget and Planning at a time like this. The sports community has also been worried that someone who never had anything to do with sports was handed the ministry.”
