A Coalition of Civil Society Groups (CCSG) has described those advocating a scrap of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) online registration as haters of good ideas.

Noting that the initiative had made corps’ members’ mobilisation easier, CCSG president, Etuk Bassey Williams, and secretary, Ibrahim Abubakar, after a stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja, said the programme had proved to be effective and speedy.

He recalled that the NYSC online registration project was a decision taken by all stakeholders at a meeting where a voluntary N3,000 was agreed upon as fee, while prospective corps members have the option to go to their schools to collect their call-up letters.

“This initiative has proven not only to be highly dependent, but has also reduced risks such as deaths occasioned of prospective corps members during trips and other risks associated with logistics during the service year,” Williams said.

“Why will some persons be clamouring for the scrap. Is this not wickedness?” he fumed.

The group urged the federal government to resist the call and continue to support the project, which was already a “success story”.
