Stern looking soldiers have taken over the venue of the proposed rally of the PDP Presidential campaign, Adokiye Amesimaka stadium in Port Harcourt.

The soldiers, who look battle-ready were deployed to the stadium, Friday night ahead of President Goodluck Jonathan’s rally next week.

The lease of the stadium has been a source of controversy between the Rivers State Government and the leadership of the PDD in the state.

The PDP had claimed that Amaechi-led government willingly denied them the use of the stadium because of political reasons.

Meanwhile, the state government said the contractor handling the construction of the stadium had returned to site in order to complete the project before the end of this administration.

In a reaction to the soldiers’ take-over of the stadium, the Chief of Staff, Government House said the PDP were “merely desperate about the elections”.
