A soldier stationed at the University of Maiduguri, UNIMAID, on Sunday, shot dead a suicide bomber who attempted to infiltrate the institution through its Works Department.
The suicide bomber attempted to infiltrate the institution through the back gate but was gunned down by the soldier.
UNIMAID Public Relations Officer, Tanko Ahmed, in a terse statement confirmed the incident which he said occurred at about 11pm on Sunday.
Ahmed disclosed that the Works Department where the incident occurred had been cordoned off by security agents in order to make the area safe.
“The area has been cordoned off by security agents as the students move about,” Ahmed said.
Also, confirming the incident, the North East Information Officer of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, Abdulkadir Ibrahim, said two female suicide bombers were killed.
Ibrahim disclosed that other than the two female suicide bombers killed, no other casualty was recorded during the incident which occurred at about 4am.
The terse statement reads, “Today 10/ 04/2017 around 400am, a suicide bombing attack was foiled by security personnel around university of Maiduguri community .
“No casualty was recorded except the two female suicide bombers who died and their remains were deposited at Borno state specialist hospital by the NEMA team and SEMA emergency response teams.”
