Sokoto Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has lamented the condition of the States’ Magistrates and Area Court Judge, who he said use commercial motorcycles as mode of transport to court.
He spoke on Monday at the 2017 Law Week, where he announced the state government’s decision to give car loans to their lordships.
“I remember when I was practicing my profession, I and my learned friends always lamented over the plight of our magistrates and area Court Judges because they are always seen coming to the court on Okada.
“We have resolved to give them car loan to end their suffering,”Tambuwal said.
He also disclosed that the state government had ordered for new vehicles for High Court Judges and Khadis.
Tambuwal added that two additional Local government election tribunal and Rent Tribunals would be established in the state.
The Governor further announced that the state would review some of its laws to meet with the current realities.
He noted that 17 lawyers were recruited by the state and that more would soon be recruited.
Tambuwal added that they would ensure a timely payment of allowances to judicial officers and encourage them to go for professional courses.
In his remarks, Sultan Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar said lawyers were very essential elements in the whole process of change mantra and reform of the judicial system.
“Terrorism is threatening from the northeast, the protection of human rights are not issues on the front burner.
“The rule of Law is not sacrosanct and there is major lack of enforcement of legal rules, regulations and procedures,” he said.
