About two weeks after Charles Okah claimed that Nigerian Prison officials tried to sodomize him at the Kuje Prisons, a sim card and a Nokia handset has been found in his underpants.

Okah, through his lawyer, Festus Keyamo, had sent a petition to the Comptroller General of Nigeria Prisons Service (NPS), Ibrahim Zakari, alleging that three prison officials had on July 3, invaded his cell and tried to sodomize him, after locking out other inmates in their various cells. According to him, they claimed he was hiding something under his pants.

Zakari subsequently set up a panel to investigate the matter. However, in a bizarre twist, Ope Fatinikun, NIS public relations officer, on Sunday night released a statement, stating that “preliminary findings revealed that there was nothing to suggest or point to act of sodomy on Charles Okah by any prison official as alleged.

“During a routine search, Charles Okah as usual refused to be searched. But when he eventually subjected himself to the search, one MTN SIM Card was found on him (under his pants) a Nokia C2 phone and a memory card were also discovered in an electric bulb fitting located on top of the concrete ceiling of his cell. Charles Okah has constantly exhibited bad conduct in his cell which is unacceptable to the management.”

Ope also revealed that at other instances, the prisoner bridged electrical wire in his cell, which resulted in darkness throughout the entire penal institution. The statement also said efforts were being made, to put a stop to the smuggling of handsets and other banned articles into the facility.
