I write this response to clarify issues raised by a certain Kolawole from Ede (published on dailypost.com.ng) against the person of my boss Hon Rotimi Makinde, Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Ife Federal Constituency . I certainly would have loved to keep quite (as silence can be golden) but I have chosen to clarify issues instead and not allow the misinformation and venom being spewed by Mr kolawole and his likes take root in the minds of the great people of the State of Osun for whose sake Hon Rotimi Makinde has borne many losses and pain, and with whom he has shared many victories and joy. The people of the State of Osun mean so much that I refuse to allow jokers in the mold of Kolawole misguide them.
First of all, I will thank the Lord God Almighty for the recent victory of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola at the just concluded gubernatorial election. God gave us that victory and not man. Anyone who truly participated in that election would know the part played both materially and physically by Hon. Rotimi Makinde to ensure the return of Ogbeni to the state house. I do not need to ‘blow the trumpet’ on the sacrifices, pain, and violent attacks on him neither would I descend low as to begin to point fingers at those whom I perceive as not to have done enough for our party the All Progressives Congress and for the great people of the State of Osun. I know that God sees and He will reward every effort to serve His people. Politics for us is not just an activity but a call from God to serve men, therefore we consider the mandate of the people as sacred and any attempt to betray the choice and will of the people – in this case Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola – is an act that defiles the sacred call of God and upon which the judgement of God will come.
Now, having read the cacophony of lies and misinformation about Hon Makinde by Mr Kolawole, it is obvious that Mr Kolawole lacks common sense. It was Harriet Beecher Stowe who said that Common Sense is seeing things as they are and doing things as they ought to be done. It is very clear that Kolawole is neither seeing things as they are nor is he doing things as they ought to be done; therefore I would safely say that he lacks common sense, and I would prove my point.
The first display of ignoramus and not seeing things as they are by Kolawole is in him more or less alleging that Hon. Rotimi Makinde is a betrayer. When victory was uncertain in 2007 and abandoning ship to join the PDP was the in-thing among the political class, Hon Makinde never betrayed Ogbeni Aregbesola nor our party back then – Action Congress-, he stood firm on his convictions and beliefs. Does it now sound logical to anyone that as a sitting member of the House of Representatives he would begin to dine or ally with the PDP? Wake Up Kolawole! Apply the common sense. What on earth could warrant Hon Rotimi Makinde to render assistance to a clearly unpopular Omisore; a man whose violent disposition and hate for Hon Makinde is clearly evident to all and at the same time legendary? No one politician from Ile-Ife has confronted this notorious person as much as have been done in public and private by Hon Makinde. Both men stand apart in principles and convictions. Regardless of being his kinsman, Hon Makinde has always been at the receiving end of his several violent plots; a case in mind was the killing of five innocent persons in a church on the eve of Hon Makinde’s election in 2011. Would it now be this man that Hon Makinde would support? Kolawole, Wake Up!! You surely lack clarity of sight to enable you see things as they truly are. I guess this is a calculated and deliberate attempt from mischief makers and petty jealous groups that want the seat of Hon Makinde. Perhaps upon hearing that he has began consultation to seek re-election after being prevailed upon by the darling people of Ife Federal constituency you are trying to smear the reputation of Hon Rotimi Makinde; a political reputation worthy of envy and emulation. Everyone seeing clearly do not need to be told where Hon Rotimi Makinde stands.
Dear Kolawole the second thing about common sense is ‘doing things as they ought to be done’ and I will give you this advice: image smearing and campaign of calumny is not the way to win elections, it is not the way of true democrats. Ogbeni did not win by doing that neither did Hon Rotimi. Elections are won through the grace of God and goodwill of the people. Learn from us. The way up is not by pulling others down at all costs. Present your plan to the people and let them make their choice. I am sure that having weighed that decent path and seeing that the people love Hon Makinde passionately and having realized you cannot beat him any day nor have any answer to his unprecedented and record breaking achievements, you have decided to follow the path of weak and defeated men by trying to malign his character. It wont work. The age long history of Hon Rotimi Makinde’s integrity and ineffability in the support of Ogbeni Aregbesola is impeccable and unquestionable.
I could go on and on to reveal your dearth of common sense to the great people of the State of Osun but that would amount to dignifying your foolishness. Indeed Hon Makinde’s post Osun gubernatorial election press conference which was well published in many newspapers set the record straight. If you have the capacity of mind and patience you can view the video coverage by Sahara Reporters via this link –
I would not want to dignify Kolawole or his content which every citizen of the State of Osun can deduce to have come from mischief makers and pay agent to smear the towering image of a true democrat and lover of the people in the person of Hon Rotimi Makinde. May Allah forgive you.
I pray you will henceforth see things as they are and do things as they ought to be done (common sense). May common sense become common to you.
Signed Smart Oluwole, Senior Legislative Aid to Hon. Rotimi Makinwa.
