Six persons arraigned for allegedly beating pregnant woman in Abuja

Six persons were arraigned before an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court on Friday for allegedly beating up a pregnant woman, Favour Michael, at the popular Wuse Market, Abuja recently.

The accused persons who appeared before the court include, Hashimu Sani, Idris Garba, Adamu Auwal, Sabiu Idris, Abubakar Sa’eed and Ibrahim Mohammed, all residents of Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, the federal capital.

According to the police prosecutor, Sgt. Abdullahi Adamu, the victim had on December 10 reported the matter at the Wuse Zone 3 Police Station.

Adamu said, “The complainant said that the accused persons alleged that she was looking at them, adding that the beating led to the miscarriage of her pregnancy.

However, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against them.

After hearing from both the accused and the complainant, the presiding Magistrate, Vera Tokura granted each accused person bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety each in like sum and must be a civil servant. The case has been adjourned to January 22, 2013 for further hearing.
