An Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, on Friday, ordered that six men, who allegedly hacked a police officer to death, be remanded in prison, pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The police charged Olamide Abayomi, 19; Ibrahim Folami, 35; Ibrahim Opeyemi, 35; Oluwatobi Olabode, 22; Boniface Ekemezie, 60; and Gafar Akintunde, 40 with conspiracy, misdemeanour and murder.
Chief Magistrate O.O. Olatunji, who did not take the plea of the defendants, ordered that hey be remanded in Ikoyi Prison.
Olatunji directed the police to forward a duplicate of their case file to the DPP.
He, however, adjourned the case until May 21.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Oladele Adebayo, told the court that the defendants committed the offence on March 20, at 11 a.m. at Mile 12, Ketu.
He said the defendants prevented the enforcement of the state environmental law by the officials of the Lagos State Task Force on Environmental and Special Offences Unit.
Adebayo alleged that while preventing the task force from enforcing the law, the defendants caused the death of Sgt. Damilola Adeojo with F/No. 431882 by inflicting machete wounds on his head and body.
NAN reports that the offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 223, 233 and 413(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
