Six killed as rival cult groups clash in Cross Rivers

At least, six persons have been killed in a cult clash that ensued in Calabar metropolis of Cross River State.

The war broke out between two rival cults of Vikings and Klans.

It was gathered that problem ensued last Thursday, when one of the gangs stormed a popular Calabar hangout spot along Atekong/Marian Road about 7pm and opened fire on those having a good time.

Two persons were reportedly killed and many others sustained gunshot wounds.

Sun quoted a resident, Ette as saying that the same night, at about 8.30pm, Dr Emmanuel Igbeng, a lecturer in the Department of Accounting, was also killed at his residence at Asuquo Abasi Street, off Uwnase Street, in Calabar South.

Reacting to the development, the Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, Ms Irene Ugbo, said police riot squads have been dispatched round the city to ensure normalcy returns.

Ugbo said: “I cannot tell you the number of deaths, but the police are doing their best to stop the cult war. No arrest has been made so far.”
