Two sisters were on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for beating their father, Ihioma Ogidinta, and tying a rope around his neck for allegedly having an affair with their late mother’s friend.

The accused: Flora Ogidinta,36, and 29-year-old Chiedoziem Ogidinta, who are residents of Festac Town, Lagos State, are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, attempt to murder and threatening violence.

The prosecutor, ASP Soji Ojaokomo, while testifying before the court said the sisters committed the offences on April 1 at their residence, alleging that they attempted to kill their father by beating him and tying a rope around his neck.

Ojaokomo further stated that in the course of investigation, the suspects confessed to the crime noting they only wanted to punish their father because he was having an affair with their late mother’s friend.

His words, “The complainant said his children threatened to do worse things to him the next time he brings the woman home.”

The Prosecutor maintained that the offence contravened Sections 56, 228 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

When the charges were read, the accused persons pleaded not guilty.

The Senior Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, however admitted both sisters to bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till May 21
