Sir Alex Ferguson, Juan Mata win Premier League October awards

One of the gifts Sir Alex Ferguson got, as he celebrated his 26th year at Manchester United, was to be named as Manager of the Month for a record 27th time. The Scot masterinded three victories in three games, also winning two Champions League matches.

“We’ve got a great set-up here, I’ve got great staff, and the players of course – they are the reason I’m getting this award. There is no question about that, so I am very pleased,” Ferguson, who moved to United from Aberdeen in 1986, said.

Spanish midfielder, Mata, won the Player of the Month for the first time, after he created three goals and scored three himself.

He said: “My main job is to assist not to score, but of course the best feeling if you are a football player is scoring goals, so this month has been very good for me.”

David Moyes had won September’s Manager of the Month, while Steven Fletcher won the Player of the Month.
