Siasia targets All African Games gold medal

Head coach of the Nigeria U-23 team, Samson Siasia, has said he wants to win the gold medal of the football event at the All African Games in Congo Brazzaville.

The Dream Team VI have been grouped alongside Senegal and Ghana in Group B.

“We are going for the gold; what else do you think we are going after? We will try as much as we can to get the gold medal of the football tournament of the All Africa Games. Winning the gold medal will also be good preparations for the Olympics qualifiers,” Siasia said.

“That will help us play a lot of games and also afford us the opportunity of studying the video tapes of all the matches played at the competition. We will have the opportunity of correcting our mistakes before going to the Olympics’ qualifying tournament.

“It is a good thing that we qualified for this competition and we will give it our best shot by going for the gold medal at stake.

“We are good to go, no turning back. We are moving forward, no backward movement. Preparation was not that great because of refusal of clubs to release players to us. But we are still very hopeful of a very good outing in Congo Brazzaville.”

Siasia also promised that his boys were working on solving their attacking problems ahead of the tournament.

“As regards the scoring problem we are faced with, we have been solving the problem gradually and we will continue to work on that even when we reach the venue of the competition,” he added.
