An early morning fire on Thursday gutted the popular Singer Market in Kano, destroying property worth millions of naira, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports. An eye witness told NAN in Kano on Thursday that the fire, which started around 4 a.m., burnt many shops in the market.
NAN also reports that the fire razed some ware houses containing food stuff and essential commodities located within the vicinity of the market.
NAN further reports that as at 8 a.m. on Thursday, men of the state Fire Service were still trying to extinguish the fire.
When contacted, the Director of the state Fire Service, Alhaji Balarabe Kabara, confirmed the incident.
He said the fire had destroyed several shops in the market.
“We are yet to ascertain the actual number of shops destroyed as we are still battling to put out the inferno.
“We cannot tell you the number of shops affected yet but the fire had destroyed many shops, “ he said.
NAN recalls that this is the third time that Kano metropolis would witness fire outbreak within one week.
