A Lagos-based marketer, Mr. Anyanwu Collins, yesterday, 3rd February, emerged as the winner in the first ever Ikeja City Mall Scavenger Hunt and went home with N100, 000 and other gifts. Mr. Anyanwu beat nine other contestants – which included a corp member based in Oshogbo, Osun State, and a grandfather from Ibadan, Oyo State – in the keenly-contested game to emerge victorious.
The game was simple: each contestant was given a bag and asked to visit all the stores in the Mall in search of letters of the alphabet. However, only ten stores of the 94 in the modern facility had the letters they were looking for and they had to use clues provided them to know which stores to enter. The first person to return to the start point and spell out the words, ‘Ikeja City Mall‘ was declared the winner. Mr. Anyanwu did this in less than 10 minutes, huffing and puffing his way to the grand prize.
The contestants were picked from the over 5,000 entries received from shoppers over the course of three weeks. To enter, ICM customers only had to write their names and phone numbers behind their receipts and drop them off in designated boxes placed around the Mall. On Friday, 2nd February, 10 lucky shoppers were drawn and invited, at an occasion witnessed by reporters.
The man of the day was elated to win, given that he almost chose to give up even before the game started. “My car broke down this morning,” Mr. Anyanwu said. “I was almost going to call them and say I’m not going to make it, but my friend just encouraged me to come. Now, I have N100, 000 to spend just for shopping at the Ikeja City Mall. I’m so grateful to them.” Congratulatory messages have been pouring in for the winner on the Mall’s official social media accounts (www.facebook/ikejacitymall and @ikejacitymall). Other contestants went home with N15, 000 each, along with branded items and gift certificates from all the participating stores. Before leaving the Mall, Mr. Anyanwu was spotted shopping at the LG Shop for a big screen tv and a car stereo.
In a parallel contest organized for reporters, Mr. Henry Ojelu of PM News won and went home with N30, 000. The management of the ICM also announced that it had extended the Shopaholic Promo to cover the the Valentine Season as well and 10 couples will be selected to enjoy a candlelit dinner in the spirit of love. We hope it will be just as exciting as the Scavenger Hunt.
