Shi’ite members insist on release of its leader, others in military custody

The Academic Forum of Islamic Movement of Nigeria has reiterated that they will not rest on their oars until their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, his wife, Malam Zeenatu and other members are set free from security custody.

The president of the Academy, Malam Abullahi Ibrahim, said this in a press statement signed and made available to DAILY POST shortly after the Academy’s rally Friday in Kaduna, saying, “we are demanding that our leader, Sheikh Zakzaky, his wife, Zeenatu and all other members of the movement who are now languishing in different prisons and Army Barracks nationwide be made to gain their freedom.”

“Bring back the corpses of our Martyrs, who were given mass buried by the Nigerian Army, for proper Islamic burial,” he stated.

According to him, despite the wickedness and atrocities committed against the movement by the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian government, they did not regret their actions.

The President queried the crime the movement had committed to deserve such ill-treatment, asking whether Nigeria was not a democratic nation and why the members of the movement have been denied their constitutional right of association.

He further queried, “Why the attack on Sheikh Zakzaky, why attack on the the movement, why extra judicial killing, why are the corpses still denied their families for proper burial and are all these atrocities happening because sheikh Zakzaky and the Movement he is leading are the only true front against tyranny and oppressed in Nigeria?”

He stressed that after the Zaria massacre, the Nigerian government and the Military went to spread propaganda about the Movement, “From blocking the road for COAS to pass which he said is blatant lie, possession of dangerous weapons in which this massacre they have done proved them wrong, operating state within a state up to the public disturbance they are claiming of.

“If those are the crimes that they claimed the Movement has done, does their constitution prescribe the punishment of extra- judicial killing? Is it the law that recommended the killing of people and burnt them alive? Who legalized the demolition of all the properties of the movement including cemetery and study centers? Is the Court there, where is the judicial wing?”

He posited that every sensible and free minded person knows that the attack was pre-planned to eliminate the movement and its leader.

Abdullahi also posited that the movement was known in safeguarding the lives and property of Nigerians both Muslims and Christians, adding that, they strived to be fair to all.

He decried that after all the oppression and killings of members, justice was yet to prevail.
