Shettima pledges welfare, security to help TNC restore power in Borno


Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has pledged to provide all the necessary logistics and welfare in terms of allowances to the military and civilian JTF to give the Transmission Company of Nigeria. TCN and Yola Distribution Company. YDCN and all other necessary support required by the joint team to immediately restore power supply to the state.

The governor, who stated this on Monday when the General Manager Bauchi Region of the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, in charge of Bauchi, Gombe, Adamawa, Taraba, Yobe, Borno and Plateau states, Engineer Idris Lawan Alim led other team members of the PHCN to the Governemnt House, Maiduguri, to solicit for support and cooperation of the state government and security formations in the state to give them cover and vehicles that will convey the team to Biu and Danboa to restore the 132 KV line which was destroyed by the Boko Haram insurgents several months ago.

As part of the efforts to restore electricity to the state, Governor Shettima announced that the state government will immediately release two four wheel drive Hillux vehicles with drivers, fuel and liaise with the GOC 7 Division, Nigerian Army, Maiduguri, as well as the Civilian JTF to provide adequate air and ground security cover for the team to enable them discharge their assignment successfully.

The governor further consoled the PHCN over the loss of some of their staff recently during the last efforts of the team to restore power supply from Damboa town, describing the incident as unfortunate. He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the staff who passed away while in active service for humanity.

The governor commended the management of the Transmission and distribution companies for their efforts to restore electricity to the state after over three months of total darkness and paralysis of socio-economic activities due to lack of power supply.

According to Shettima, most commercial, government and industrial activities in the state have been grounded due to lack of steady power supply, signifying how important electricity is in human life as a necessity next to water and air.

Earlier, the Area Manager,Yola Distribution Company, Alhaji Abba Jakada, said the team came to solicit for support and cooperation of the state government to fully restore light to the state, which has been off for some time now and thanked the government for its support to the company so far.
