Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State yesterday ordered the immediate construction of houses for medical doctors and nurses working at Auno primary healthcare centre, located in Auno Village of Konduga Local Government area of the State.
The Governor gave the order while inspecting ongoing reconstruction and expansion works at the primary healthcare centre, which included complete remodeling, increase of beds capacity, creation of additional sections, modern roofing, provision of pop ceiling, fencing, water supply and supply of medical equipment.
Shettima said there was need to provide shelter for workers at the hospital in order to cater for those that may be working at night to address the health needs of the villagers and to equally encourage the medical workers by addressing their basic needs.
The Governor expressed satisfaction with the works being supervised by former commissioner in the State, Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan through a direct labour that was aimed at maximizing benefits while spending less.
Shettima also directed the supervisor to renovate a primary school located beside the hospital with an instruction that the project be completed in less than two months with a promise to extend the ongoing primary school feeding programme to include pupils in the village.
The Governor also directed the State’s ministry of health to transfer beddings to the centre within the next two weeks, in addition to providing other medical consumables.
Shettima also inspected drilling of boreholes in the village after deployment of a Dando Super rig that has the capacity to drill up to 1,500 meters depth in search of water.
The Governor informed the community that when completed within the next few weeks, the healthcare centre, the school and boreholes will be handed over to a committee to be made up of residents in the area who will manage them under a community projects management programme that is being introduced across the State.
