Shettima Monguno regains freedom


After more than 48 hours in kidnapers’s den, elder statesman, Dr. Shetttima Ali monguno, has regained his freedom. The former Minister returned home Monday morning under tight security from Marte -Chad border towns. He was abducted last Friday, shortly after prayers in his mosque at Mafoni in Maiduguri.

Since then, Nigerians at all quarters have been appealing to the kidnappers to release the 92 year old elders statesman who has been at the vanguard of the presidential amnesty for the Boko Haram militants.

The last appeal about his release was made on Sunday by the Northern states Governor’s Forum who had appealed to the abductors to let go the Man who has great interest of the country at heart.

In a short speech to a large crowd of sympathizers who gathered to welcome him at his residence in Maiduguri, Monguno urged them not to cry. In a solemn voice, he said “They did not kill me, so don’t cry”.

Also speaking, the Governor of Borno state, Mr Kashim Shettima, appealed to the crowd to let him have some  rest and not disturb him for at least 24hours.

It is still unclear whether ransom was paid for Mr. Monguno release.
