Shettima gives committee 3 days to ascertain reported abduction of girls


Following media reports‎ claiming a fresh abduction of girls at the weekend in Bam-Buratai, a community in Biu local government area of Borno State by Boko Haram insurgents, Governor Kashim Shettima on Tuesday constituted a seven-member committee to establish facts regarding the said abduction and report to the State Government.

Special Adviser on Communications and Strategy to Governor Shettima, Malam Isa Gusau, said in a statement that members of the committee were mostly selected amongst indigenes of Biu local government area where the affected community is located.

Governor Shettima, who met members of the committee shortly after the committee was set up said they should deploy every lawful means, including interface with their kinsmen in the affected community and surrounding areas with a view to establishing all facts concerning the reported abduction and present findings to him not later than Friday, December 4, 2015 for appropriate action.

The committee is chaired by a member of the Borno State House of Assembly, representing Biu, Aliyu Mamman Kachalla, Mrs Adama Badawi ‎as secretary and member.

Other members ‎of the committee include Habib Yusuf, Engineer Baba Isa, Usman D.C. Buratai, Ibrahim Audu Miringa and Dr Hamma Adama Biu.

Shettima urged the citizens to remain calm and go about their normal businesses, assuring that the Borno State Government was working very hard, day and night to support security agencies and youth volunteers in a combined and very determined commitment to ending the Boko Haram insurgency.
