Gov. kashim Shettima
Borno State Governor, Kashim Shettima has been elected chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF).
He was elected during a meeting of the NSGF on Monday at the Niger State Governors Lodge in Abuja.
Current Deputy Governor of Kano State and Governor- elect, Abdullahi Ganduje, was elected deputy chairman.
At the end of the meeting, outgoing Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu told reporters that state governors in the country have agreed to put past issues behind them.
He expressed hope that henceforth, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum will remain united and work for the common good of the country.
“The goal is to mediate and unite the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, that has been fragmented in the past few years,” the governor said.
He added that northern governors agreed to continue to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency in the north-east, while fighting poverty, marginalization and unemployment in the region.
Aliyu further disclosed that plans were underway to revive the moribund New Nigeria Newspaper in Kaduna .
In his acceptance speech, Shettima assured that the Boko Haram menace would be overcome.
He said NSGF would remain an indivisible body under his leadership.
In attendance were Governors Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe; Bala Ngilari of Adamawa; Ramalan Yero of Kaduna; Muazu Aliyu of Niger; Gabriel Suswam of Benue; Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara; Kashim Shettima of Borno; Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara; Isa Yuguda of Bauchi; and Saidu Dakingari of Kebbi as well as Kano Governor- elect, Abdullahi Ganduje and Kogi State deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi.
