The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, on Friday reacted to the death of Nigeria’s Second Republic President, Alhaji Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari, GCFR.
Shagari reportedly died at the National Hospital Abuja on Friday after a brief illness.
In a tweet, the governor wrote: “I regret to Announce the death of former President Shehu Shagari who just passed away at National Hospital Abuja. May his Soul Rest in Peace.”
On his part, former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri lamented the death of Shagari same day President Muhammadu Buhari flagged off his second term campaign.
Omokri recalled how Buhari overthrew Shagari as he began his second term in 1983.
In a tweet, Omokri wrote: “So ironic that former President Shehu Shagari, who President @MBuhari overthrew as he began his 2nd term in 1983, has died on the very same day Buhari began his own 2nd term campaign in Uyo. Buhari wants to enjoy what he denied Shagari. May his soul rest in peace #RenosDarts.”
