“She’s a mother in a million” – Patience Jonathan speaks on step-mother&#821


Wife of the President, Patience Jonathan, has extolled the virtues of her foster mother, Charity Oba, describing her as “a mother in a million who was a devoted mother and a dedicated Christian.”

Speaking for the first time since the demise of Madam Oba, the younger sister of her biological mother, the First Lady disclosed that the deceased raised her from a tender age.She also attributed her success in life to her late mum.

Mrs. Jonathan, who sat beside her mother-in-law, Madam Eunice, spoke at the Presidential Villa, when she received sympathizers. “God knows the best,” she said after a taking a deep sigh.

Similarly, President Goodluck Jonathan described Madam Oba as a “compassionate and caring mother”, who was always ready to assist others.

He stated this when a delegation of Rivers State Peoples Democratic Party members resident in Abuja paid him a condolence visit.

According to him, his mother-in-law’s kindness, selflessness and accommodating nature made her sudden death painful.

He disclosed that breaking the news of the death to his wife, was a very difficult task.

Jonathan while thanking the sympathizers for their concern, called on everyone to engage in good deeds and re-dedicate themselves to the course of humanity.

He prayed for God to comfort his wife, whom he said “was devastated by the sudden departure of her dear mother.”

Many dignitaries have been visiting the First Lady’s Family since the news broke.

On arrival from Geneva late on Wednesday night, the First Lady was received by her husband, President Goodluck Jonathan; former Head of State, General Abdusalami Abubakar; the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Anthony Anenih as well as Presidential aides.

She has also received state Governors, including that of Abia, Anambra, Bayelsa, Delta, Kogi, Katsina and Enugu States.

Governors Godswill Akpabio, who spoke on their behalf urged Mrs. Jonathan to take heart, while offering the deep condolences of the PDP family to the her and her extended family.

Others that paid similar visits were Ministers, Heads of Government Agencies, wives of top government officials as well as Mrs. Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, the Ambassador of Nigeria to Spain.
