Shaw to fly back to Manchester on Saturday

Manchester United manager, Louis van Gaal, has revealed that Luke Shaw will return on Saturday, following surgery on his broken leg.

The left-back was carried off with a double fracture on Tuesday, as United began their Champions League run with a 2-1 defeat at PSV.

“I called him last evening,” said van Gaal. “He sounds very strong.

“That’s amazing for me, a big surprise, a good signal, but he knows it’s also a long way he has to go.

“Maybe he shall come back tomorrow and then have a long period of rehab, so he still has a long way to go.

“I am always saying about the total human being principle – it [Shaw’s recovery] is not only physical but also mental.

“For us it is a big loss, because I said in advance it shall be the season of Luke Shaw, and now it is nearly finished already.

“We built up a left wing with Memphis Depay and Luke, and now we must build it up again because we have to address that situation.

“It’s not easy, we have to cope with it, but it is a big loss.

“Shaw is the line-up player and it is very dififult to replace him, certainly when he is such good shape.

“But we have, in Marcos Rojo, Daley Blind and Ashley Young, good replacements.”
