SGF appointment: Ohanaeze urges Buhari not to ignore South-East

The youth wing of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has renewed its call on President Muhammadu Buhari to look the way of South-East in appointing Secretary to the State Government.

The group in a statement issued on Thursday by its President, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro said such move would promote equity and justice.

The statement reads: “Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council hereby salutes President Mohammadu Buhari for his avowed determination to fight the war against corruption with the desired impetus. It is a welcome development and we shall support him; corruption is the bane of Nigeria and it must be tackled with vigour.

“In doing so, however, we warn that innocent persons should not be victimized. Unorthodox method should also not be used. Those who have questions to answer should face the law.

“We are also appreciative of the determination of our President to reduce the cost of governance, reduce bloated bureacracy and merge some MDAs that do the same job.

“We call on the President to give consideration to our earlier call to pick his SGF from the South East. Since the North holds the Presidency, the South the Vice Presidency, South-South, the Chairman of the ruling party and the middle belt the Senate Presidency as it were, in as much as the Ohaneze Youth Council is not a political organisation, we call for all the constituent units that formed the APC to be carried along in the government”.

It added that, “to that effect , we still want to appeal to Mr President to consider Dr Ogbonnaya Onu for the position of the SGF. He has the level headedness, humility and intellectual capacity to give Mr President’s vision for Nigeria an impetus.

“We know Mr President has the right to choose whoever he wishes to work with, but other Nigerians and stakeholders can also make relevant input.

“We also recommend the following technocrats and value personalities from the South East and Igboland to fill in slots from the zone and Igboland- Dr Chris Ngige, Chief Rotimi Amaechi, Prof Barth Nnaji, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, Prf May Nwoye, Prof Pat Utomi, Dr Greg Ibeh, the Chancellor of Gregory University Uturu in Abia State, Chief Gorge Muoghalu, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwu-Iju, Prf Aja Kpuru Ajah, Dr Alex Otti, Prf Uzodimma Nwala, Chief Osita Okechukwu, Barr Okey Ezea, Mr Osadebe Ibegbu, a South Afraca based Nigerian construction expert, Chief Okechukwu Nwagbara, Dr Steve Ihedigbo, Chief Charles Okereke , the publisher of Nigerian masterweb, Chief Ikechi Emelike, Chief Ahamdi Nweke, Prof Enyia, a USA based Nigerian educationist, Dr Ezekiel Izuogu, Chief Festus Odimegwu, among so many other distinguished Igbo technocrats that can add value to the government”.
