The Nigeria Police has reacted to the controversy surrounding the publication of a nude picture of a 30-year-old woman, Paula Lawrence, allegedly circulated by Anietie Ekong, the media aide to the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
Lawrence had dragged the senator’s aide before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, alleging sexual harassment and seeking N100 million as damages for the emotional, psychological pain and torture she had suffered as a result of the harassment.
The Eagle Online reports that the police in their findings after investigation stated that Ekong never denied that the nude picture emanated from his Facebook account, but only claimed his account was hacked.
The report means that Ekong has a case to answer as he will have to prove that his account was indeed breached as he claimed.
Lawrence in further affidavit to support of the motion for the enforcement of her fundamental human rights, accused Ekong of engaging the services of one Otobong and Rosemary Anthony to threaten and silence her for daring to enforce her rights.
In suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/121/2016, Lawrence said the case was initially reported at the Akwa Ibom State Police Command, but Ekong allegedly bought his way through before an Information Technology expert took over the case at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
But Ekong in his response described as false and blackmail the allegation by the woman.
He insisted that when the nude picture was sent out through his Facebook page, he issued a statement denouncing the publication.
Lawrence, through her counsel, Oseini Bamigbaiye, in the suit is seeking the order of the court to restrain Ekong from further harassing, threatening and invading the privacy of his client and an order compelling him to tender unreserved and written apologies in all the social media through which he defamed her.
Lawrence, a graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Uyo, has claimed that Akpabio’s aide drugged her and had canal knowledge of her, took her nude pictures and then circulated them on the social media after she met him in a hotel in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
