The Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Sector command, has confirmed that seven persons were killed and 17 others sustained injuries in an accident that occurred on Monday at the Sagamu/Iperu Remo junction on the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway.
The State Sector Commander, Mr. Adegoke Adetunji, while confirming the incident, said a total of 28 persons were involved in the accident, adding that seven persons died, while 17 others were injured.
“The 17 injured persons are in critical condition. The accident was caused by over speeding,” the Commander added.
The accident which occurred around 2.50pm near the Police Area Command headquarters in Sagamu, involved a Toyota Hummer passenger bus with number plate, BDG 789 XJ, which reportedly rammed into a Mazda passenger bus with number plate, REE 248 XA.
Adetinju said the Toyota Hummer bus was carrying passengers who were returning to Lagos from their villages in the Eastern part of the country after the Yuletide and New Year celebrations, adding that the driver of the Hummer lost control and veered off its lane, crossing the median before crashing into the Mazda travelling the Sagamu.
