Ex-Super Eagles player and assistant coach, Sylvanus Okpala has told the Minister of Youths and Sports Development, Solomon Dalung that if the leadership crisis in the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) was not settled, it could plunge the nation’s football into an abyss.
According to him, a ban by the Federation of International Football Association, FIFA, could be indefinite which has the capacity to truncate efforts made so far to salvage the sport in the country by statekeholders.
In a chat with Vanguard, Okpala said: “I disagree with those who said a ban would put the country in a better position to reorganise its house. That is a wrong position because the ban could be indefinite. You cannot tell FIFA how many months, years or decades a ban should last.
“The Minister is the only one who can initiate peace and achieve it in the football family. If Giwa wins it through the court there will still be no peace and if Pinnick wins through FIFA, there would still be no peace.
“The sports minister should use his good offices to restore peace and harmony in Nigeria football.”
He, however, added that he had taken solace in what the Sports Minister said recently that “it is an internal affair that could be settled internally.”
