A federal lawmaker from Kaduna State, Barr. Sunday Marshal Katung, Sunday condemned the killing of about 13 persons in some parts of the State, saying the act is unwarranted.
Katung who represents Jaba/Zangon Federal constituency at the lower chamber of the National Assembly, lamented why some persons take lives of fellow human beings for no just cause.
Unknown gunmen had last week killed 13 persons in Katsak and Ungwan Danborno villages of Jema’a and Birnin Gwari local government areas respectively.
The lawmaker who sympathized with victims of the attacks as well as families of the deceased persons, said “as a lawmaker, I am ready to work with the government in ending the spate of killings that have persisted over the years. These senseless killings must stop.”
While pointing out the danger of the attacks and killings of local farmers in Southern Kaduna, Katung said the consequences of the unwarranted attacks were very explicit.
He told Journalists in Kaduna in a statement that “famine is imminent if the situation is not checked. Because this is the peak of the farming season, and our farmers have fled the farms for fear of been attacked.”
Katung expressed his determination to work with government at all levels to end the epidemic of killings that have persisted in Southern Kaduna after the 2011 general elections.
He further appealed to the perpetrators to sheathe their swords and channel any perceived grievance to the authority rather than resorting to taken other people’s lives.
Katung commended the governor for appointing former Chief of General Staff, General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd), to chair a committee charged to recommend ways to stamp out attacks on communities in southern part of Kaduna state, adding that, “I am for anything that would end the killings and bring lasting peace in Kaduna State.”
