Senegal defeat Nigeria to win 2016 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations

Senegal beat hosts Nigeria 8-4 on Sunday, to win the 2016 Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations, in the final at the Eko Atlantic.

The Super Sand Eagles, who came into the competition as defending champions, have already qualified for the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Bahamas and were hoping to win their third title.

However, they were unable to withstand the superior quality of Oumar Sylla’s men, despite taking the lead.

With this victory, Senegal becomes Africa’s most successful team in beach soccer, as it was their fourth title.

For Nigeria, it is the third time they will be losing in the final, after South Africa 2006 and Morocco 2011.

Senegal’s Al Seyni Ndiaye was named best goalkeeper, Nigeria’s Emeka Ogbonna was awarded the Most Valuable Player and Babacar Fall won the top scorer prize with 11 goals.
