Senators stay away as Saraki’s CCT trial continues

Trial of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki continued on Thursday at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

DAILY POST, however, observed that the Senators who accompanied him to the court are more of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) than his colleagues of the ruling All Progressives Congress.

Saraki arrived at the Tribunal with other Senators at exactly 9.47, dressed in milk coloured agbada, with multi-colored cap.

Immediately the Judge came in, Saraki was taken to the dock.

Meanwhile, Saraki’s Solicitor, Ahmad Mogaji (SAN) in his submission informed the Tribunal that his clients had already filed a suit challenging the Appeal Court’s judgment. He urged the Tribunal to halt trial pending the Supreme Court’s decision.

He sought for adjournment of trial.

However, the prosecutor, Rotimi Jacobs on his part averred that the decision of court of Appeal in view of Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was enforceable in law.

Buttressing his case on points of law, he made reference to Section 287 of the Constitution, section 306 of Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, which he submitted that in matters of Criminal case, such adjournment as being sought by defendants was against the intendment of drafters of Nigeria’s law books.

“My Lord, I don’t want you to fall into the temptation of granting adjournment for it would be the fifth time; it is to foot drag the case unnecessarily”, he averred.
