The request by President Muhammadu Buhari for the confirmation and approval of non-career ambassadorial nominees nearly hit the rocks on the floor of the Senate as a seeming majority of the senators rejected the request.
When the motion was moved by the Senate Leader, Aliyu Ndume on Tuesday, that the Senate do consider the request by President Buhari for the confirmation of the nominees, the lawmakers did not waste time in standing against it.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki put the question twice to be convinced on the direction of the voice vote; and twice the voice of the ‘Nays’ was overwhelming.
He however saved the day by declaring that the ‘Ayes’ have it.
The list was subsequently referred to the Committee on Foreign Affairs, to submit report in four weeks.
President Buhari had penultimate Tuesday transmitted to the Senate, a list containing names of 47 Nigerians to be confirmed as non-career envoys of the nation.
With the tune of the Senate today, a strong signal may have been sent to the Executive arm of government that all may be far from well.
