Senator Paulker raises alarm over non-inclusion of Bayelsa ambassadorial nominees

Senator Emmanuel Paulker (PDP, Bayelsa Central) at plenary on Tuesday raised the alarm over the omission of Bayelsa State in the ambassadorial nominee sent by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Paulker, who raised a point of order under ‘Order 43, Personal Explanation’ said he and his colleagues have been inundated with calls from members of his constituency over the omission of Bayelsa in the ambassadorial nominees.

According to him, in the Foreign Affairs Ministry, there are two Bayelsans who are deputy directors in the ministry that President Muhammadu Buhari would have nominated to fit-in as ambassadors, stressing that non-inclusive of Bayelsa is a violation.

Paulker said: “Mr President equally facts available to us shows that even in the external ministry, Foreign Affairs Ministry at least have two Bayelsans that have the level of Deputy Directors and I believe that these two personalities can fit in-to where this nominees came from.

“Equally in the list there are some states that have up to three in number. Non inclusive of any Bayelsans on the list is a clear violation of the section I read abnitio.

“Mr President, my only prayer is that before the committee consider this list. I implore you and my colleagues to tell the committee and in fact communicate to the presidency of the omission so that justice can be done to the state called Bayelsa.”

In his response, Senate President, Bukola Saraki noted that the committee should take note of the omission before carrying out their work.

“Senator Paulker discussed this matter with me and you know according to our rules under Order 43, there would be no debate but, however, I am happy that the chairman committee on Foreign Affairs is here and I’m sure they will take note of this observation while they carry out their work on this matter.

“I am sure also by tomorrow, we would have committed that to the foreign committee to work on that,” he said.
