Former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, has sympathized with the President and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) over the untimely death of the immediate past Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) Abuja chairman, Comrade Chuks Ehirim.
Mark, in a condolence message signed by his Media Assistant , Paul Mumeh, lamented the death of Ehirim whom he described as a defender of the defenseless and a voice for the voiceless .
He recalled that Ehirim was in the forefront of the struggle for the enthronement of democracy in Nigeria and consistently fought hard to nurture and sustain democratic culture in the land.
Ehirim, he noted, unarguably distinguished himself as a true unionist and a professional who fought for the interest and welfare of his colleagues at all times.
Senator Mark added that late Ehirim was a forthright , fearless , courageous and an uncompromising journalist who fought against all forms of oppression in order to enthrone an egalitarian society.
He said: ” It’s sad that Ehirim had to depart now that his services were needed more by all lovers of truth and freedom of expression.
Senator Mark urged members of the NUJ especially the immediate family of Ehirim to build on the legacies of honesty, steadfastness , hard work and love for the country which the late frontline Journalist was known for.
He prayed that God almighty will grant the deceased eternal rest just as he prayed that He grants the bereaved family the fortitude to bear the loss.
