Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura (APC) Zamfara North Senatorial District and Vice Chairman, Senate Committee on TETFUND and Tertiary Institutions has called for 100% funding of budget to enable Ministries, Departments and Agencies function optimally.
Speaking to DAILY POST after budget Defence by Federal Character Commission and SERVICOM, under the presidency, he noted that in the 2015 budget, capital allocation to SERVICOM was achieved to about 50%.
He, however, stated that in 2016, it should be implemented to the fullest in view of strategic roles it plays in the nation.
He said the increase in its capital allocation to about 30% ahead of that of 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari was to make sure that infrastructure was put in place to enable it discharge its responsibilities.
“There is increased budget this year compared to 2015 and our collective prayers and hope is that the budget is financed 100%”, Kaura maintained.
While debunking the notion widely held by people that the Federal Character Commission employs people, he explained that they could monitor employment by Ministries, Departments and Agencies to make sure there was equity in their exercise.
“Federal Character Commission does not employ. They only monitor Ministries, Departments and Agencies in their employment or appointment to make sure that each State of the Federation was evenly represented”, he said.
Kaura also maintained that Federal Character Commission also ensured that infrastructure being put in place was evenly distributed among the states of the Federation.
Earlier, the Commission Chairman, Dr. Shettima Bukar Abba who appeared with top management of the agency stressed that upon his assumption of office, he had taken steps to address complaints of lopsided employment in some agencies of government, which he said was already receiving attention.
“When I resumed as the Chairman, I took cognizance of some complaints that bothers on lopsided employment in some agencies of government which were now receiving attention”, he said.
