Senator cries out over frequent kidnappings in Sokoto, seeks Senate’s intervention

Senator Abdullahi Ibrahim Gobir representing Sokoto East Senatorial district, on Tuesday, urged the Senate to intervene in the spate of kidnappings in Sokoto East.

Speaking through order 43, the lawmaker explained that kidnappers are on rampage in Sokoto East Senatorial District without being challenge by security operatives.

According to him, about 13 persons have been kidnapped, while abductors are demanding various sums of ramsom before they can be released.

“In the eastern part of Sokoto comprising of 8 local governments, kidnapping is on the rise which occurs every day and as I speak everywhere have been overran by kidnappers.

“Recently, about 13 persons have been kidnapped in a single swoop by abductors. The Police have disappeared from their posts in the affected places.”

Senator Gobi further revealed that women have been the targets of the kidnappers, adding that “even where I went during my campaign have become unsecured, there is no day that women have not been kidnapped.”

Reacting to the motion, the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki said the Senate Committee on Police Affairs should wade into the incident in order to ensure that the police secure the affected local government areas.
