Senator Chris Adighije, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC), in Abia State, has berated the alleged move by some elites from south west, to thwart the chances of the South East geopolitical zone from producing the Nigeria President in 2023
He revealed that there was an understanding that the nation’s Presidency should rotate between the north and the south.
According to the APC chieftain, it would be a disservice to the igbo nation to further sideline south east region from the nation’s political equation ahead of 2023 presidency.
Adighije, who spoke in an interview with reporters on Tuesday, in Umuahia, the Abia State capital said, “The South East represents a major leg of the tripod called Nigeria. As you know, there is an understanding that the Presidency would rotate between the North and the South. As President Buhari completes his eight years in office, Presidency should go to the South. And When it get to the South, the South west has been President, under Olusegun Obasanjo, for eight years, the South South, is a new nomenclature, has been President under Goodluck Jonathan.
“Naturally, morally, the Presidency ought to go to the South East without question. But of course, you know that, is power struggle. And for me, for us to confirm that, this is a country of equity. I don’t think Nigeria will have any other choice. But, if you skip the Igbo’s and go back to the Yorubas, it doesn’t sound good. It is not justifiable. I do believe that the opportunity ought to go to the east in 2023.
The APC chieftain urged, “The Igbos have to put their house in order, support the present government, support good governance, and of course, we must show sense of responsibility. 2023 is still far away from now. We just finished an election, so, we should concentrate on good governance. And when we come 2023, i am sure by then, people who are seeing the other way, will see more clearly, the need for the South East to be part of the equation.”
