Senator Adeleke’s death: Nurse Aderibigbe thrown into prison

The Osun State High Court, sitting in Ede, has put Alfred Aderibigbe, the nurse who treated Senator Isiaka Adeleke before his death, behind bars.

Nurse Aderibigbe was indicted by the coroner’s inquest led by Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara, for allegedly administering an overdose on the late Senator Adeleke.

The nurse was arraigned and pleaded not guilty to the murder charge preferred against him.

The Magistrate Ayilara-led coroner inquest had recommended the nurse for prosecution, having established that he allegedly administered a drug overdose on the late Senator, thus causing his death.

During evidence before the coroner, the nurse had said the drugs he gave the late Senator were those given to him by Adeleke and not overdose.

However, the Chief Medical Director of Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo, Professor Akeem Lasisi, disclosed that the Senator died of drug overdose.

Also the Consultant Pathologist, who conducted the autopsy on Adeleke’s corpse, Dr. Taiwo Sholaja, also told the coroner that he died of drug overdose.

Counsel to the accused, Soji Oyetayo, informed the court that there was an application for bail he has filed.

The Acting Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary for the state, Dapo Adeniji, who led the legal team for the Ministry of Justice, opposed the bail application.

Adeniji argued that the nurse was just arraigned for the first time in the court and the bail application was filed before the arraignment.

He said bail application was premature because the accused was not in custody when the bail application was filed.

Justice Ayo Oyebiyi ordered the accused be remanded at the Ilesha Prison till June 29, when the case will come up for hearing.
