Senate will reconvene if Buhari sends ministerial list – Ekweremadu

Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu yesterday said the Red Chamber, which is on recess, will reconvene if President Muhammadu Buhari, sends his ministerial list.

Ekweremadu said this in Enugu during a courtesy call by the Zonal Management of Nigerian Television Authority, NTA.

”Though we are on recess, most of us are very much around doing other legislative duties.

“Therefore, if the need arises, we will quickly reconvene to give Nigerians the service we were elected to offer, especially if the ministerial list is sent by the President.”

Speaking on the controversial pay cut for members of the National Assembly, Ekweremadu stated that members of the Senate were prepared to make sacrifices in the interest of Nigerians.

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, had on June 25 constituted the adhoc committee on finance to review salaries, allowances and overhead cost of running the National Assembly.

The committee was constituted to realign the finance of lawmakers to reflect the present economic realities in the country.

However, following concerns raised by Nigerians about lawmakers’ wardrobe allowances, Mr Elias Mbam, Chairman, Revenue Mobilisation Allocation Fiscal Commission (RMAFC), met with Saraki on June 17.

In the meeting, Mbam said the 2008 Remuneration Act was being reviewed and would be ready at the end of the third quarter of 2015. .
