The Senate has indicated its readiness to screen and confirm Justice Walter Onnoghen tomorrow as substantive Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, disclosed this at plenary on Tuesday , noting that the exercise will take place by 11am.
Onnoghen’s confirmation is coming after the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo forwarded his name for appointment which was acknowledged last week before the Senate suspended plenary for a short break to enable further discussions on 2017 budget at the Committee level.
Onnoghen was on November 7, 2016 appointed in acting capacity by President Muhammadu Buhari on recommendation of the National Judicial Council (NJC).
His acting capacity for three months was to lapse on February 10, 2017, a situation that almost caused constitutional crises, before the intervention of NJC.
DAILY POST, however, recalled public outcry as a result of delay in recommending him for confirmation.
