Finally the 2016 National Budget of N6.08trillion which was presented by President Muhammadu Buhari in November, 2015 is now set to be passed into law on Wednesday ( Today), DAILY POST reports.
The budget which was laid on the floor at both Chambers on Tuesday indicated that it was the first time in the history of the nation’s democracy that a budget is been passed without subtraction or addition of figures as presented by the Executive.
The hullabaloo that followed the budget early in the year, notwithstanding, joint Committee on Appropriations led by Senator Danjuma Goje was of the view that it should be passed having worked on it to make sure that it meets aspirations of Nigerians.
Speaking with DAILY POST in Abuja, Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (House of Representatives) Hon. Suleiman Abdulrahman Kawu said, the National Assembly cannot afford to do anything less with regards to passing the budget today, stating that it was a reflection of the APC led administration’s commitment to Nigerians.
“You know this is the first time, the National Assembly will pass the budget without tampering with the figures for any reason and I do know that they cannot do anything less because the figure is a reflection of what the administration has committed itself to do for Nigerians,” Kawu said.
Hon. Suleiman Soba (APC) Kaduna South also expressed optimism that the passage would sail through, noting that the essence of allowing Committee to work before presenting it to the Committee of the whole was to debug it of any mistakes.
