Senate to investigate Nigeria Customs warehouses

The Senate Ad-hoc Committee investigating Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has stated that it would commence its assignment despite the Yuletide season.

Giving this indication at a press briefing in Abuja, Chairman of the Committee, Senator Dino Melaye explained that the nature of assignment deserves immediate investigation, noting that grains seized by Customs were almost getting spoilt.

He assured Nigerians that the Committee would visIt all Customs warehouses across the federation.

“We assure Nigerians that the Committee will visit all warehouses in the country to ascertain the condition of grains held, particularly now that people are hungry.”

“We were told that grains are held up across warehouses, but we would force releases so that cost of food items will go down”

“We will reprimand those found culprit after our investigations”.

“We are going to forgo our break as we shall be carrying the assignment immediately”.

A member of the Committee, Senator Kabir Marafa said there has been steady decline in revenue generation of the Nigeria Customs, saying most Nigerians were not aware of this.

He reiterated that members of the panel will abandon other engagements to face the Customs probe.
