The Senate on Tuesday indicated its readiness to investigate an oil giant, Chevron Nigeria Limited over alleged fraud in the tune of ($4,926,464,100.00) Four billion, Nine Hundred and Twenty Six Million, Four Hundred and Sixty Four Thousand, One Hundred dollars.
The investigation was sequel to a petition forwarded by one Dr. George Uboh of Panic Alert Security Systems bothering on tax evasion and other forms of financial scams by the oil company.
The petition which was being investigated by Senate Committee on Public Petitions, Ethics and Privileges announced that the petitioner had indicated to withdraw from it.
Reacting, the Senate raised suspicions that there might have been an underhand deal, insisting that they would go ahead with the investigation.
Senator Dino Melaye (APC) cautioned that petitioners should be sure of what they were informing the Senate through petitions.
In the same vein, Senator Adamu Aliero pointed that the magnitude of money involved made it a national interest, hence, the red Chambers will go ahead.
In his ruling, Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki constituted an ad-hoc Committee to investigate the petition and revert it’s findings to the Senate.
