The Nigeria Senate has expressed its readiness to commence deliberations on the 2016 budget by Wednesday.
Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja, spokesman of the Senate, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi noted that having received communication to that effect from President Muhammadu Buhari, which was read at Tuesday’s session, the Senate decided that copies of the corrected version be distributed to all senators for them to critically peruse the document before Wednesday’s sitting.
He emphasised that with the development, controversies surrounding the missing budget should be laid to rest and stressed that what was important was Senate’s commitment to delivering on promises made to the nation.
Corroborating on the earlier stance of Senate President that there was no change in figures from the version Buhari personally presented, Sabi explained that it was certain internal issues of agencies of government as captured in the draft that brought about confusion.
“I say again and again, there was no missing budget anywhere. It was the creation of media that the budget was missing. Also the figure was not different from what was submitted to the Senate earlier on,” Sabi insisted.
