Senate Committee on FCT has threatened to revoke plots of land in 572 housing units demolished in 2012 by the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) that were allegedly reallocated to some lawmakers.
The Chairman of the committee, Sen. Dino Melaye, made this known during the hearing of a petition written by Falana & Falana Chambers, on behalf of Immanuel Investment Limited in Abuja on Tuesday.
He said the committee had commenced investigations and findings and had so far revealed that the plots of land were reallocated to some senators and House of Representatives members who served in the Seventh Assembly.
“Our findings have shown that the plots of land were reallocated to members of the FCT committees at the Senate and Reps in last Assembly.
“ It is unfortunate that members of the committee became the beneficiaries of the plots.
“You destroyed the 572 houses and allocated it to senators and reps members. This is not acceptable.
“We will investigate it and we will order the revocation of the lands,’’ he said.
The Director of Lands, FCDA, Mainasara Babayo confirmed that the plots had been reallocated.
He, however, did not mention the names of the beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, the petitioners, Mr Sam Ogala of Falana & Falana Chambers, said the 572 housing units were completed before the FCDA demolished it. (NAN)
