Newly-inaugurated Nigeria Senate on Thursday adjourned plenary till Tuesday 2nd July, 2019 to enable lawmakers settle issues that enable optimum performance.
DAILY POST reports that the adjournment followed an hour closed-door session.
Immediately after the closed-door session, President of the Senate, Senator Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan, who presided over the day’s plenary, announced the setting up of a 12-man welfare committee.
According to the Senate President, the Committee will be headed by Senator Abubakar Kyari and they would work with the National Assembly management to ensure the welfare of the legislators.
Other members are: Senators Aisha Modibbo (APC), Gabriel Suswam (PDP), Sabi Abdullahi (APC), Betty Apiafi (PDP), Bassey Akpan (PDP), Jibrin Barau (APC), Ibrahim Gobir (APC), Tofowomo Nicholas (APC), Adeola Olamilekan (APC), Chukwuka Utazi (PDP), and Senator Stella Oduah (PDP).
The Committee members including the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), which has two weeks to submit their report, would forgo their two weeks recess to enable them work and submit the report on time.
“Let me thank the Committee members for sacrifices they are going to make because while we are on recess, they will stay behind to work.
“They have two weeks to submit report,” Lawan said.
DAILY POST on Thursday learnt that the National Assembly management was working on allocation of offices to the lawmakers.
A senior staff, who spoke under anonymity, stressed that offices would be allocated before their resumption in two weeks time, adding that all their details have been obtained.
