Senate receives fresh petition against ministerial nominee, Aisha Abubakar

Following the unveiling of second batch of the Ministerial Nominees which included a nominee from Sokoto State, the Senate on Tuesday received a fresh petition against the nomination of Aisha Abubakar which seeks for her replacement with a more competent person.

The petition which was channelled through Senator Ibrahim Gobir representing Sokoto East, was presented at today’s plenary through a point of order.

“Mr. President, I have a petition against a ministerial nominee from Sokoto State, Mrs Aisha Abubakar which was written by the good people of Sokoto and the highlight of the petition is that she should be replaced by a more competent person- Sokoto indegene”, Gobir said.

The Senate President, however, ordered that the petition be laid as part of issues to be deliberated for the day.

It is, however, a traditional for such petitions to be referred to Committee on Ethics, Public Petitions and Privileges for further findings.

Meanwhile, former governor of Rivers State, Mr Rotimi Amaechi’s fate is still hanging as his name did not reflect for screening in today’s Order Paper which is the official agenda for proceedings.

Unconfirmed reports shows that the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State had sought a Court injunction, restraining the National Assembly from screening him as a result of financial allegations leveled against him while he governed the state for eight years.

Other sources say he has been billed to be screened next week Tuesday alongside other nominees in the 2nd batch of the list, as the report on his petition will be ready on Tuesday.
