Senate Presidency: Lawan in early lead as vote counting commences

The immediate past leader of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan appears set to clinch victory as the President of the 9th Senate.

This follows a hitch-free election on Tuesday at the inauguration of the 9th National Assembly.

The election, which was being presided over by Chief Mohammed Ataba-Omolori, saw the Yobe Senator scoring 79 votes after ballots sorting.

As at the time of filing this report, the votes for Senator Ali Ndume (Borno) were being counted.
